I think that your Austin-Healey is beautifully built, Didier.

There is no doubt that Donald Healey was still alive, (and especially his son, Geoffrey) would have built his Austin-Healeys with the modifications you used.  I’m glad that you liked my “With Donald Healey” article.

When I talked with him for a few hours in the mid-eighties, he was clear on these points –

1.  He built the cars to fall under a specific low price and was dissatisfied with the end product 2.  He built them with, “whatever we had at the time” (his exact words). 3.  He did not like the “1940’s technology” and, if he could have, would have done it differently. 4.  The only Healeys that were nicely finished were the ones that were specially put together for automobile exhibitions - 5.  He had no use whatever for British Leland- also he disliked the Jensen-Healey 6.  He didn’t see the point in the “concours cars”. 7.  The Bug-eye Sprite was his favorite

When he sat in my 3000 MK111, I was worried what he would say about the Dupont Garnet Red that I had on it back then.  He told me that he liked the color and the paint quality and went on to say that he would have used it if he could get it in the 50’s and ‘60’s.  Also he liked the Naugahyde upholstery I used then and said that he, “never liked the low quality upholstery but it was all I could get”Bill :

This is my Healey engine in 2001, almost finished, with my mechanic-friend who did the work.  I would describe the sound it makes as a “roar”.

Splendid !!!!!
